after the blond Californian skaters, the impression to be constantly near to a metal concert and the brushes for the shoes...

gasoline:
fuel, gasoline, disel and gas methane are here lightly cheaper than in Italy. Consider that the cost of living here is more than double, though!

cans alone in the city:
here, like in other civilised countries, there're returnable bottles and cans (Pfand in Germany); it means that you'll get discounts at the supermarkets if you bring back empty drinks. But, for this reasons, many empty cans and bottles are left at the corners of the streets and in parks, because they soon get recover by some poorer people.
 
rock parks: (we called them so)
the city of Helsinki has many parks and often here you can find big parts of actual rocks and cliffs, where people are sitting, drinking, chatting and sunbathing...

post:
while in Italy the postman rings the bell from the street and leaves letters &co downstairs in the shared entrance in the letterboxes, here he comes up to your floor and mails directly in your front door.

double windows, double doors:
every house here, for thermal insulation reasons, has a double front door, double french windows where the balcony is, and double windows.

people moving abroad wintertime:
we heard many times of people, usually freelancers or people who can anyway, moving abroad for the winter period and staying many months in southern countries like Spain, Caribbean, France, Portugal, Italy..

just 2 main store chains:
there are in Finland only 2 important competitors chains that have the monopole for food and clothes. For this reason, together with the higher cost of linving and the necessity to import a lot of fruits and vegetables, prices are so high. Recently a foreign food chain, Lidl, tried to come and finally succeded.

money for young people:
several economic supports are provided for young people in Finland. Since a person gets 18, it's possible to apply and get 400 euros every month, leaving the parent's home. A student can also ask for a loan, that adds 300 euros pro month. Finnish young people have the lowest economic support in Scandinavia, though!

summer cottages:
In Finland almost every family owns a summer cottage and usually goes there during the summertime. Summer houses are very common in northern country, made usually in wood, very small, with no electricity, in the middle of nature.

dopo i biondi californiani in longboards, l'impressione di trovarsi costantemente in un preconcerto metal e le spazzole pulisciscarpe...

benzina:
il costo dei carburanti (benzina, disel, gas metano) è leggermente inferiore all'Italia. Teniamo però in considerazione che qui il costo della vita è almeno doppio.

lattine in giro per la città:
qui come in altri paesi civilizzati, esiste il vuoto a rendere (Pfand in Germania), per cui lattine e bottiglie, riportate al supermercato, ti danno uno sconto alla cassa. Per questa ragione, però, vengono abbandonate spesso, ai bordi delle strade e nei parchi, parecchi vuoti che presto vengono recuperati da persone più povere.
 
parchi roccia: (da noi così denominati)
la città di Helsinki ha molti parchi e spesso al loro interno ci sono grandi porzioni di veri e propri scogli, dove le persone solitamente si siedono per prendere il sole, bere, leggere, chiacchierare...

posta:
a differenza dell'Italia, dove il postino suona più volte e lascia le lettere al piano terra, dove ci sono le buche delle lettere condominiali, qui entra e va di porta in porta ad imbucarte direttamente dalla tua porta di ingresso.

doppie finestre, doppie porte:
tutte le case, per ragioni di isolamento termico, sono dotate di doppia porta di ingresso, doppie portefinestre sui balconi e doppie finestre. 

gente che nei mesi invernali va all'estero:
già diverse volte abbiamo sentito di persone, spesso freelancer o persone che possono permetterselo, che nel periodo invernale si trasferiscono in altri paesi a sud per diversi mesi. Mete gettonate: la Spagna, i Caraibi, la Francia, il Portogallo, l'Italia.

solo due catene di negozi:
ci sono in Helsinki solo due grandi catene che posseggono il monopolio per i negozi di alimentari pricipalmente e anche in parte del vestiario. Queste due grandi catene concorrenti sono anche la causa, insieme all'alto costo della vita e alla necessità di importare molti alimenti, degli alti prezzi finaldesi.

aiuti economici ai giovani:
per i giovani sono previsti diversi aiuti economici da parte dello Stato finlandese. Dal compimento dei 18 anni di età, un giovane in Finlandia riceve un assegno di studio di 400 euro al mese se se ne va dalla casa dei genitori e può richiedere un ulteriore supporto attraverso un prestito per studenti, che assicura altri 300 euro al mese circa.
Tuttavia questo assegno si studio è il più basso tra tutti i paesi scandinavi!!


case estive:
quasi tutte le famiglie finlandesi posseggono un summer cottage e solitamente trascorrono lì del tempo nei mesi estivi. Le summer houses sono molto comuni nei paesi nordici, sono solitamente in legno, piuttosto piccole, senza elettricità e immerse nel verde.
