A typical Finnish ice cream is black and has salty liquorice flavour.

We had the nice opportunity to have a real Finnish dinner, by a friend's place:
ice tea and white wine, whole wheat butter and salmon (lax), riisipiirakka aka karjalanpiirakka, which is a whole wheat rice pie with eggbutter on it. (here's a good image, as far as we don't take one ourselves: riisipirakka con eggbutter 

 A typical sweet pie (pie= piirakka) called rahkapirakka and then ice cream with lakka marmelade. Lakka are some berries, similiar to raspberries, but orange anq quite expensive, from the north of Finland.

We also had the great chance to try the Finnish sauna. Almost everyone here has a wooden sauna at home, usually next to the bathroom, or in common with the block. They are used to have a sauna once a week, mostly during the weekends, because it is very relaxing and takes some time.
In this way, after the sauna, we could for a while appreciate the 30° of Helsinki. Traditionally you should also beat yourself with birch branches (vihta).

Abbiamo anche avuto la piacevole occasione di fare una vera cena finlandese, ospiti di un'amica:
tè freddo e vinobianco
tartine integrali al forno di salmone (lax) affumicato e burro
riisipiirakka aka karjalanpiirakka, un tortino integrale tipico di riso, con sopra un eggbutter, una miscela di uova sode e burro. (finché non ci sarà una foto fatta da noi, questo link di google è perfetto: riisipirakka con eggbutter )
Un dolce tipico chiamato rahkapirakka (pirakka = torta) e gelato con marmellata di lakka, che sono una specie di lamponi arancioni molto costosi e provenienti dal nord della Finlandia.

Oggi abbiamo anche avuto la chance di provare la vera sauna finlandese. Quasi tutti i finlandesi ne hanno una in casa (oppure è di condominio), solitamente è attaccata al bagno, interamente rivestita di legno, e la fanno almeno una volta alla settimana, solitamente nel weekend. E' molto rilassante e fatta con questo caldo fa apprezzare i 30 gradi attuali.
Se fatta veramente in modo tradizionale, ci si deve anche colpire con dei rami di betulla (vihta).
