We had a nice walk today downtown with Annuliina, called Alli, her boyfriend Olli and their dog Rölli. They have been a great company and fellow walkers.
we walked the Tove's Path, following a map and some information papers I got from Liisa, by Finnanimation. It's been a nice adventure, like a treasure hunt.
I will write everything about the Tove's Path, on the dedicated post, once I'll visit also the exhibition. Now, let's see some other things we discovered.
Near the Kauppatori there's normally a statue, commonly called Amanda or Manta. The statue of Havis Amanda represent a nude mermaid raising from the water and there're four sea lions at her feet.
I have never seen it. When we arrived in Helsinki almost one month ago they were working around it and now there's a big black building, more or less like a container. This is called Hotel Manta and it's an idea of the Japanese artist
Tatzu Nishi, who decided to build and hotel room around the statue and offer a night with Amanda for 130 euros per night, from the 15th of August to the 12th of October. It's already sold out.
On the 1st of May, there's a national festivity in Finland, like we have in Italy, the "working class day" and now also of the students, called Vappu; everyone's going to have a picnic, no matters how's the weather. On that day Kaivopuisto is overcrowded and students are also celebrating graduations, wearing white hats. Often they also put an white hat on Amanda's head. (see pic )
We found also another statute, which has appeared in these days: it's called "Bad bad boy" by Tommi Tojia. It's an itinerant sculpture which has travel already a lot and is not in the harbour of Helsinki. If you write its name on Google Image, you'll see it pretty everywhere.

Let's talk about alcohol a little bit..
In Finland you can't buy strong alcohol in grocery stores or anywhere else, but in Alko.
Alko is the national beverage retailing monopoly in Finland. It's the ONLY store in the country which retails beer over 4.7%, wine, spirits.
Then, if you buy something there, you'll get a quite elegant gray bag from Alko, which allows anyone in the street to recognize it and let everybody know that you've been there. o.o

Oggi ci siamo fatti un bel giretto in centro con Annuliina, detta Alli, il suo ragazzo Olli e il loro simpatico e morbidoso cane Rölli. Sono stati di ottima compagnia e molto simpatici.
Abbiamo seguito il percorso di Tove Jansson, una mappa di luoghi per ripercorrere le principali fasi della sua vita. E' stata una specie di caccia al tesoro. A proposito di ciò, scriverò un post dedicato, non appena avremo visitato anche l'esposizione sull'artista, organizzata per il centennale. Nel frattempo, ecco qualche altra scoprta di oggi.
Vicino al Kauppatori c'è una statua, chiamata Amanda o Manta; rapprensenta una sirena che esce dalle acque e ai suoi piedi ci sono quattro leoni marini. Non abbiamo però mai visto la statua di Havis Amanda perché quando siamo arrivati già c'era un cantiere attorno ad essa ed ora si vede una specie di container nero sopraelevato. Si chiama Hotel Manta ed è una installazione artistica e un'idea dell'artista giapponese Tatzu Nishi, che ha voluto costruire attorno alla sirena una camera d'albergo. Dormire con Amanda costa 130 euro a notte, la camera è disponibile dal 15 agosto al 12 ottobre, ma è già tutto esaurito.
Il primo maggio è festa nazionale dei lavoratori anche in Finlandia e ora anche festa per gli studenti, che celebrano i diplomi indossando cappellini bianchi e mettendone uno anche alla statua di Amanda. Questa festa è chiamata Vappu
ed è tradizione andare al parco a fare un picnic, qualunque sia il tempo atmosferico. Quel giorno il parco Kaivopuisto è particolarmente sovraffollato.
Oggi abbiamo anche trovato un'altra statua, che è apparsa in questi giorni e si chiama "Bad bad boy" di Tommi Tojia. E' una statua itineerante e basta scrivere il suo nome su Google Image per vedere che ha già viaggiato parecchio.

Per ultimo, parliamo di un argomento che sta a cuore alla popolazione finalndese: parliamo di alcol.
In Finlandia non si può comprare alcolici nei supermercati. C'è un SOLO negozio che detiene il monopolio degli alcolici, delle birre al di sopra del 4.7%, del vino e dei superalcolici. Si chiama Alko
Inoltre se compri qualcosa da Alko ricevi una busta particolare, in tela grigia, piuttosto elegante e col marchio Alko, in modo che tutti per strada la riconoscano e sappiano che tu sei un compratore di alcolici. :)
