Rita is a super nice girl from Hungary. We actually found each other one year ago through Couchsurfing while I was in Iceland; she was there too, but couldn't meet there in the end. Since she's a great traveler though, we had the chance to meet today in Helsinki.
She is currently living in Norway, Stavanger, for she works there, with children, but as soon as she gets some days off or holidays, she's suddenly on a plane, traveling around all over the world. She wants to see as much as she can, and it's incredible to follow her on FB, because she jumps from a state to another very quickly and you'll never guess when you'll find her the following week.
Yesterday she was in Swizerland, she spent the night in Sweden and landed in Helsinki this morning. Tonight she will be in Riga, then Vilnius.
We had a nice walk downtown talking a lot about our travels, experiences and life perspectives.
While we were sitting at the harbour market, to eat some fish and taste some black salted licorice ice cream, she was telling me how much she likes and loves Turkey and Turkish people and the cities she visited... when the guy sit next to us joined the conversation, because he was actually from Istanbul.
Crazy. His name is Okan and we started to talk even more excitedly, if possible, and I found out some interesting and unexpected things, like for example that Turkish and Hungarian languages are actually quite similiar and they do have also some common words!
Since her Icelandic trip, Rita carries around in her travels a little puffin and takes photos of him in every country she visits. She also collects flags from all the countries she's been. Maybe one day she'll decorate a guest room dedicated to the couchsurfers with them.
It's been a very nice day, I hope to see her again, and I am quite sure it will happen soon :)

Rita è una ragazza eccezionale e una viaggiatrice instancabile. E' ungherese, ma ora vive e lavora in Norvegia a Stavanger. L'ho conosciuta in realtà un anno fa attraverso il Couchsurfing, quando ero in Islanda, ma ci siamo riuscite a vedere oggi a Helsinki per la prima volta. Rita adora viaggiare e quindi risparmia per questo e non appena ha un po' di ferie salta su un aereo e visita il mondo intero, con una velocità spaventosa. Seguirla su FB è incredibile, salta da uno stato all'altro e non sai mai dove finirà la settimana seguente.
Ieri era in Svizzera, ha passato la notte in Svezia e stamattina è atterrata a Helsinki. Stasera sarà a Riga e poi si sposterà a Vilnius.
Abbiamo camminato per Helsinki, parlando dei nostri viaggi, delle esperienze e delle prospettive di vita.
Mentre al mercato del porto mangiavamo del pesce e assaggiavamo il gelato nero (di liquirizia salata), lei mi stava raccontando di quanto ama la Turchia, il turco e la gente del posto. E mentre mi diceva di quanto fosse meravigliosa Istanbul, un ragazzo seduto a fianco a noi è dovuto intervenire nella conversazione perché, in effetti, lui è di Istanbul. Così abbiamo conosciuto Okan e, se possibile, la conversazione è diventata ancor più concitata e io ho scoperto delle cose molto interessanti, come, per esempio, che la lingua turca e quella ungherese sono piuttosto simili e hanno addirittura delle parole in comune!
Dal suo viaggio islandese, Rita porta con sè nei suoi viaggi un pupazzetto di puffin che fotografa nei luoghi che visita. Inotre colleziona le bandiere di ogni stato in cui va "per allestire -dice- forse un giorno, una stanza per i Couchsurfers!".
Spero di vederla presto e, visti i suoi continui spostamenti, credo sia piuttosto probabile :)
